Saturday we met some friends (approximately 26, new and old) to ride up the Saluda River and camp out. We planned to find a sandbar, camp out, and eat supper. We decided on Beaufort stew. DW supplied the shrimp from last year's shrimping season and Grandma W. supplied the corn from the garden! We all crammed into DW's boat and set off. It poured rain for about the first hour. When the rain finally stopped, we managed to find a sandbar and start cooking. We let the kids play for a while. They had a great time, especially Jules. After we got home and everyone had a bath, it was nearly 10 pm before the kiddos were in bed. Everyone was exhausted. So, you ask, why is this relevant?
About 12:30 a.m. that night, DW and I woke up to one of the girls crying AND someone banging on our sliding glass door. It wasn't a normal knock - we both could tell something was wrong. So, DW, being the ever protective dad, grabbed a certain protective item, and went to check on the crying child and to see who was knocking at our door . . . . .
Turns out the surprise visitor was JULIANNE! She was the one crying and was on our back deck knocking/banging on the door. We have NO idea when she went outside or how she got out. The sliding glass door was locked and the blinds were shut. When we got her back inside we asked (nearly demanded) to know why she was outside. She said - in between sobs - that she didn't know why she was outside, but that she really had to go to the bathroom. DW and I think she got up to go to the bathroom, went past the bathroom door, and mistakenly went out the sliding glass door.
Scary stuff . . . .
We'll definitely be investing in a door latch.

We are all thankful this had a happy ending. I will be the first to contribute in the door latch
Poor Julianne....she must have been terrified.
This is scary stuff .... much too much for old people to handle...another reason why God gives babies to young folks.
So happy she was safe.
